Following our earlier condition audit of the Gordon Greenwood Building, The University of Queensland sought arkLAB’s assistance in designing a masterplan for the progressive replanning of floors to suit the Faculty of Arts changing needs. Part of this masterplan involved developing a floor planning strategy to effectively utilise the existing deep floor plates while achieving a range of office, work and meeting environments.

The first project to employ this strategy was a half-floor fitout of level 5 to create a range of office environments for faculty and research staff. arkLAB’s design solution included a flexibility-focussed layering approach and involved the removal of existing ceilings create an apparently larger space with enhanced acoustic control and a rich materials palette.
